Liquid-cooled Scout and air-cooled Thunderstroke cruisers — Scout, Chief and Springfield, model by model.

ScoutLiquid-cooled V-twin (1133cc / 1250 SpeedPlus)

The Scout is Indian's middleweight cruiser and its only liquid-cooled line. Reborn in 2015 with a 1,133 cc (69 cu in) DOHC 60-degree V-twin, it spawned the stripped-back Scout Bobber and the entry-level 999 cc Scout Sixty. For 2025 Indian launched an all-new Scout on the larger 1,250 cc SpeedPlus engine and a fresh chassis, offered across five trims (Classic, Bobber, Sport, Super Scout and the sportier 101 Scout).

Notes & conventions
  • Figures are given metric-first with imperial in parentheses, using Australian/British spelling (tyre, aluminium, colour).
  • Indian is a torque-focused brand: for the air-cooled Thunderstroke Chief/Springfield it publishes peak torque (lb-ft) prominently and rarely quotes horsepower (the Thunderstroke 111 is roughly 90 HP). The liquid-cooled Scout is the exception, with published HP (~100 HP old 1133, 105-111 HP new 1250).
  • Two completely different engine families: the Scout uses a liquid-cooled DOHC 60-degree V-twin, while the Chief and Springfield use the air-cooled, pushrod Thunderstroke V-twin.
  • Every model uses belt final drive.
  • Thunderstroke 116 output is tune-dependent: 162 Nm (120 lb-ft) in the Chief and Sport Chief, but 171 Nm (126 lb-ft) in the heavier Springfield Dark Horse bagger.
