Bonneville T1201200 HT (High Torque) 270-degree parallel-twin
The T120 revived the classic Bonneville name on Triumph's liquid-cooled 1200 cc High Torque platform, launched for 2016 as the more torque-focused, higher-spec sibling to the smaller Street Twin. It pairs retro styling with modern rider aids, ride-by-wire and a torque-assist clutch. A blacked-out T120 Black variant shares all mechanical specs but swaps chrome for satin/black finishes. A 2021 Euro5 update shed weight, upgraded the brakes to Brembo and made cruise control standard.
Notes & conventions
- •Power and torque are Triumph's claimed crank figures. Bonnevilles are quoted in HP/lb-ft on Triumph's spec sheets; the Rocket 3 uses HP (and PS on newer sheets). Both parallel-twin 1200s make ~80 PS; the Rocket 3 triple is 165 HP (2020-23) rising to 182 PS / 180 bhp (Storm, 2024 on).
- •Metric is primary with imperial in parentheses. The twins use a 270-degree crank liquid-cooled 'HT' (High Torque) 1200 parallel-twin; the Rocket runs a 2458 cc longitudinal inline-triple.
- •Weight convention shifts: the 2016-20 twins and 2020-23 Rocket 3 were originally quoted DRY, while post-2021 Bonnevilles and the 2024 Rocket 3 Storm are quoted WET/kerb, so cross-era weight jumps partly reflect measurement method, not just added hardware.
- •All modern generations are ride-by-wire with switchable ABS and traction control. The 2021 Euro5 Bonneville update kept output but added Brembo front calipers, aluminium rims and standard cruise control.
- •Final drive: both Bonnevilles are chain; the Rocket 3 is shaft (bevel box). Bore x stroke is 97.6 x 80.0 mm for the 1200 twins and 110.2 x 85.9 mm for the Rocket triple across all listed eras.
